Webinar: Opportunities to Improve Menstrual Health and Hygiene, July 9 - recording available

If your organization is interested in advancing gender equity through improvements to menstrual health and hygiene (MHH), join the  Sanitation Technology Platform  (STeP) team on July 9, 2020 at 9 am EST for this free webinar.

Learn more and register here:  https://go.rti.org/MHHJuly2020

Today, over 500 million women worldwide don't have the resources, infrastructure and social support they need to manage their menstruation. To advance gender equity, improvements are needed from multi-sectoral actors to drive progress through advocacy, research, innovation, or implementation.

On the webinar, FSG's Laura Amaya will overview key changes in the global menstrual health and hygiene space since 2016, highlighting remaining gaps and opportunities for further action and investment. And our STeP team will examine the market opportunity in India and South Africa for an emerging product class, decentralized menstrual hygiene product (MHP) incinerators, that may help provide a safe and dignified disposal option for MHPs in some contexts.

Following the webinar, attendees will better understand:
  • Key changes in the global MHH space since 2016
  • Remaining gaps and opportunities for further action and investment in MHH
  • The market opportunity for decentralized MHP incinerators in India and South Africa
  • Key market segments and procurement drivers for these products
I hope you can attend! If you cannot, a recording will be available after the webinar.

Best,

I would like to hear more on the successful use of "homemade" i.e. non-commercial menstrual management tools, such as how women use folded or vaginally inserted cloths (as opposed to manufactured washable pads) or other freely available materials. Also about cultures where menstruation is not hidden. These presentations seem still very skewed towards justifying and targeting the marketing of products. Ultimately, creating a dependency on manufactured products can construct social norms that further constrain and isolate women, especially when they can't afford to buy the accepted products (as has been well- documented in the UK).
