Re: Following Up on Call for Saline Water Treatment Solutions

Hi Digbijoy,

Given the urgency of saltwater intrusion and its impact on water access in coastal Bangladesh, I'm curious to hear any updates since the 2024 crowdsourcing call for saline water treatment solutions.

A few points I'm particularly interested in:
  • Were any promising household or community-level solutions identified?
  • Has there been consideration of adapting approaches from other saline-impacted regions, such as East Africa or coastal India as they may have similar challenges/ experiences to Bangladesh?
  • How were the selected solutions evaluated for scalability, affordability, and community acceptance?
  • Is there an opportunity for renewed global input or collaboration in 2025?
Understanding the outcomes or next steps could be incredibly helpful for others tackling similar challenges in the Global South.

Kind regards,
Benny

IRC seeking household or community-based water treatment solutions

Do you know of any household and/or community-based water treatment solutions that can treat salt water?

IRC together with BRAC, is working on a project on safe water and sanitation services, in four climate hotspots in Bangladesh. We are reaching out through crowdsourcing initiatives to seek viable solutions for these climate hotspots. The request is particularly aimed at identifying potential water treatment solutions for coastal areas affected by saline intrusion.

Deadline: Sunday, 13 October 2024.

Thanks in advance.
