Re: 30th SuSanA Meeting from 17th to 28th August - Registration is now open!
Hi all,
a big thank you to all those, who are supporting and want to participate in the upcoming meeting(s). We can provide some more updates, however the full picture is constantly moving and developing at the moment. An important change in the above announcement is the date of the opening plenary - this was moved and will take place on Monday, 17th August, 2.00-3.30 pm CEST.
The opening plenary will include opening remarks, key note speeches, an update what happened in SuSanA in the past year, and then short pitches for each session to happen during the week. So don't miss out on that!
The sessions throughout the week are led by working group leads, regional chapter coordinators, the secretariat and active members and partners and between 30-90 minutes.
Here is a sneak peak into the programm as of today, but some sessions are yet to be confirmed. We will send a SuSanA newsletter in the coming days, including a registration link.

Re: 30th SuSanA Meeting from 17th to 28th August - Registration is now open!
Hi Duru and all,
You suggested a physical meeting rather than an online meeting for the SuSanA meeting. However, putting those additional hygiene measures in place would be rather costly. Also, many people can currently not even leave or re-enter their countries freely (here in Australia for example all "normal / non essential" travel in and out of Australia has been stopped since March and probably will remain like this until the end of the year (same for New Zealand)!).
I have been a strong proponent of online meetings (or at least blended meetings: face to face plus a proper online component) for years (to reduce CO2 emissions and costs), so this is one aspect of the pandemic that I find good: more online meetings, less air travel at last!
Madeleine and team: do you have more information on when the sessions will be held? Is it going to be like a series of webinars? If so, don't put too many on because this might overload people. If you normally have 8 hours of SuSanA meeting on a Saturday, is the idea to now spread it out over one week and have 1-2 hours of webinars per day? How are you going to cater for different time zones? It seems like a time around lunchtime in Europe probably works best globally, as it's morning in America and evening in Asia and some of Oceania.
Regarding webinars: I have to admit that I personally feel already overloaded with the number of webinars that have sprung up in recent months. So it will be tricky to come up with a format that is perhaps different/interesting/appealing to stick out from the crowd...
Regards,
Elisabeth

Re: 30th SuSanA Meeting from 17th to 28th August - Registration is now open!
It will be difficult! But lockdown are being lifted and economies are reopening in many countries. I suggest physical meeting but with nose masks and distancing rules observed including temperature checks and sanitizers especially since by August the situation must have greatly improved. My thoughts though!

Hi all
I am so pleased to be part of organizing committee for the 30th SuSanA meeting and this meeting will be online so I really encourage you to bring forward , your, ideas , programs , exiting research and innovations. During this Pandemic and the global lockdown I think it has become very clear for many of us how important our joint effort to work towards sustainable sanitation solution is.. The Pandemic has helped us to put a spotlight on the invisible, sanitation workers, and how crucial their work is for keeping systems operational and our communities safe and healthy. The pandemic will affect our life for some more time and it actually gives us an opportunity to look at the future where there will be need for a sustainable robust recovery of societies and system. It is very clear that sanitation system need to be resilient, inclusive and sustainable during pandemic as well as for the future we are facing with the ongoing climate change deteriorating water availability caused by an increasing numbers of extreme events. This is all exiting and it will be great to have your ideas not only on content but also on engaging online methods for group work etc.
The only thing that worries me now is how I am going to create that very special feeling with a beer on our special "island" after the SuSanA Stockholm meeting - all ideas for getting that feeling online is also welcome! Cheers Madeleine

30th SuSanA Meeting from 17th to 28th August - Registration is now open!
Dear SuSanA members, partners, and friends,
For this upcoming 30th SuSanA meeting, there is no need to hop on a plane, there will be no jetlag, and no missing suitcases. Simply charge your devices, get some snacks ready, sink into a comfortable chair - and off we go.
As the Stockholm World Water Week 2020, where the 30th SuSanA meeting would have taken place back to back, got canceled, the SuSanA Core Group decided to continue with an online format. We have set up a small planning committee to organise the meeting (Thanks to Belinda, Lourdes, Madeleine and Shobana!) that met last week for a planning kick-off. Here are the first general data, and an invitation to all of you to join in as speaker, moderator, translator, participant, ...
Format: Different sessions will be spread out accross a couple of days, but the assembly meeting will take place in good old tradition on the Saturday before (most likely August, 15th)
Sessions: Open for submissions! Active members, partners, WG leads, regional chapters, etc. can suggest and organise sessions together. Please contact the secretariat via This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you would like to host a session, contribute with experiences from your project, research, etc. We aim for a first outline of sessions by the end of June.
We are aso in discussion with other networks who would have attended/held meetings and convened sessions at SWWW to coordinate planning for the online events.
Best regards,
Franziska
