Re: 29th SuSanA Meeting @ AfWA in Kampala, Uganda - February 2020
Dear all,
We would like to share with you the evaluation of the meeting. It was done via digital vote on mentimeter.
The first question was on what people liked about the meeting (any two words could be submitted)
The second was about what topics could be included in the next SuSanA meeting
The third was on suggestions about the future improvements
The fourth was about what SuSanA tools are most useful
Best regards,
Keitumetse

Re: 29th SuSanA Meeting @ AfWA in Kampala, Uganda - February 2020
Hi all,
the SuSanA meeting is around the corner. As always, we have an exciting mix of presentations, speakers from different thematic areas, launches and announcements in the meeting. As the interactive group discussions in the previous meeting were the participants' preferred sessions, we built this in again. Tere will be a group didscussion session focusing on aspects of system's strenthening in hygiene and sanitation. The full agenda can be found here .
Every group will try to identify one person that would note the main points, good examples, and open questions – this would be posted in the Forum afterwards to make the discussion available to the global membership. Hopefully some discussions will then continue online as well.
Here is an overview of the different thematic tables (some of them are still tbc)
Learning table on systems strengthening - chaired by IRC
How to strengthen sanitation and hygiene in the WASH systems framework - chaired by German Toilet Organisation and Sustainable Services Initiative (rapporteur Arno Coerver)
- What are key particularities of sanitation and hygiene compared to water supply?
- Collection of examples of system strengthening related to sanitation and hygiene (including key challenges and lessons learned)?
- How can SuSanA support?
Role of private sector in sustainable Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS), topic and questions tbc - chaired by Millenium Water Alliance and USAID USHA
- How are government systems in sync with entrepreneurial sanitation services delivery model?
- How do community members/ sanitation groups perceive the private sector involvement in entrepreneurial sanitation services delivery model?
Resource recovery from FSM, private sector development - chaired by Water for People, GIZ ENWASS, and IWMI
- How to balance between Policy and Practice
- Factors hindering sanitation businesses along the value chain?
- What opportunities exist in Africa
Women in the sanitation sector - chaired by the African Women Snaitation Professionals Network (AWSPN) (rapporteur Charlotte Mong'ina Maua)
- How can we increase women’s participation in the planning, implementation and management of sanitation systems (technical and policy processes)?
- How can women’s networks (e.g. the AfWA country women chapters) contribute towards accelerating women’s career opportunities in the sector?
Private Financing for sanitation!?, topic and questions tbc - chaired by FINISH Mondial and GIZ Sanitation for Millions
- Difference between private financing and public financing. And the consequence for setting up sanitation programs.
- Blending? What does it mean? In practice how can public and private funding strengthen each other in a financing structure.
Equity and non-discrimination (EQND) topic and questions tbc, - chaired by WSSCC and WaterAid
Fragile areas, Humanitarian Assistance, tbc
Looking forward to the (online) discussions!
Best regards,
Franziska

Re: 29th SuSanA Meeting @ AfWA in Kampala, Uganda - February 2020
Hi all,
on WTD 2019, the SuSanA Forum announced a new section in the Forum on Equity and Inclusion, see the post here , your feedback is welcome! I think, discussions and/or presentations around equity and inclusion would also be great for the 29th SuSanA meeting. I especially mentioned the topic of sanitation workers in this post .
Let me know what projects, organisations or needs for discussion come to your mind - and also possible formats for the SuSanA meeting.

29th SuSanA Meeting @ AfWA in Kampala, Uganda - February 2020
The 29th SuSanA meeting will take place in February 2020 - just before the The African Water Association (AfWA) International Congress and Exhibition in Kampala, Uganda (tentatively Saturday, 22 February 2020).
Who of you is planning to attend? What topics should be discussed at the 29th SuSanA meeting? What formats would you prefer for the meeting (we try to include more active participation and room for exchange in the meetings)
The menitmeter evaluation of the 28th SuSanA meeting suggested (among other things):
- More time for interaction and networking
- More specific studies and less frameworks
- Posters from participants to speak abouth their work
The overall theme of AfWA ICE 2020 is “Breaking new grounds to accelerate access to safe water and sanitation for all in Africa”. For the first time, sanitation management will be one programme track. Furthermore, the official launch of the African Water and Sanitation Academy (AWSA) will form part of the key activities of the Congress. Hence, a session on capacity development during the SuSanA meeting could be of interest to many.
In addition, with the launch of an African Women Sanitation Practicioners Network at AfWA, a gender-focussed session would also reflect recent and urgent developments in the sector.
Further information about AfWA is available on the congress website .
