- Hello! I manage communications for the IMMANA programme and Agriculture, Nutrition and Health (ANH) Academy - we bring together researchers, practitioners and policymakers from around the world working for better nutrition and health through improved agriculture and food systems. I'm based at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
Research Fellow/Assistant Professor - agriculture-food systems and nutrition
Salary: £40,011 to £53,465
Closing Date: Wednesday 4 November 2020
Reference: EPH-DPH-2020-23-R
The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is a world-leading centre for research and postgraduate education in public and global health. Our mission is to improve health and health equity in the UK and worldwide; working in partnership to achieve excellence in public and global health research, education and translation of knowledge into policy and practice.
The Innovative Methods and Metrics for Agriculture and Nutrition Actions (IMMANA) is a research initiative funded by the UK Aid and BMGF to accelerate the development of a robust scientific evidence base needed to guide changes in global agriculture and food systems to feed the world’s population in a way that is both healthy and sustainable.
The Research Fellow/Assistant Professor will join an interdisciplinary team at LSHTM working on the interlinkages between agriculture-food systems and nutrition and will work in close collaboration with the IMMANA Principal Investigator and Co-Investigators at University of Sheffield and Tufts University. They will be expected to develop and execute an independent body of academic work of highest scheduled standards towards the aims of IMMANA.
The work will be varied and requires methodological expertise in at least one (and ideally more than one) of the following areas: statistical and mathematical modelling, geospatial analysis, economics and econometrics, scenario analysis, data science and machine learning or other quantitative analytical methods as applied to agriculture, nutrition or health.
The research will be focused on understanding the evolution of food systems and factors affecting disparities in nutritional outcomes in low and middle income countries. The successful applicant will be expected to lead research using varied sources of data relating these data as causes or consequences of changes in agriculture, food systems and nutrition. A PhD in a field related to agriculture and food systems, human nutrition or public health, with demonstrated excellence in quantitative methods is essential. Further particulars are included in the job description.
The post is funded until July 2024. The salary will be on the Academic scale, Grade 6 or 7 scale in the range £40,011 - £45,437 (G6) or £46,704 - £53,465 (G7) per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. The post is based in London at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, however, the manager will be open to a discussion on relocation dates if the successful candidate is currently based overseas.
Please see this page for more information and application details.
