Internship - Urban Sanitation in Zambian Water Programme (Lusaka, Zambia)
Internship in Zambian Water Programme
Background
Although Zambia has plenty water resources and the access to drinking water and sanitation supply in Zambia has improved significantly in the last five years, in 2011 about 78% of the urban and 61% of the rural population did have access to hygienically safe drinking water and 54% in the urban and 43% in the rural areas had access to sanitation supply. Zambia is likely to meet the MDG target on water, but will likely fail for the sanitation target. Thus sanitation has a high priority and the GIZ Water Sector Reform Programme supports the Ministry of Local Government and Housing (MLGH) in rolling out the National Urban Water and Sanitation programme on macro level. On meso level the programme supports the Devolution Trust Fund (DTF) and Commercial Water Utilities (CU) in implementing water and sanitation projects, especially in peri-urban areas.
Tasks
The major task will be the development of a sanitation tool kit that aims at better project development and implementation. This will include the development of standard design options for urban sanitation facilities, including design and technical drawings, Bill of Quantities and further tools such as health and hygiene awareness materials. Further you will support the GIZ Water Sector Reform Programme in the preparation and organization of meetings or events together with our Zambian partners.
Your profile
You have studied architecture, industrial design, civil engineering or related subjects and hold at minimum a bachelor’s degree. Further you have proven expertise to prepare technical drawings ideally for water and sanitation technologies. You have knowledge in use of visual design and technical drawing computer programmes. Experience in the water and sanitation sector is a benefit. First experiences in development corporation and foreign countries are desirable. You further have excellent written and spoken German and English knowledge.
Period:
01.10.2012 - 01.03.2013
Our offer
You will receive an amount that depends on the duration of the internship and the country.
