The Consortium for DEWATS Dissemination (CDD) Society is a not-for-profit organisation, initiated as a network in 2002 and registered formally as a society in 2005. The Society aims to promote better environment especially for less privileged, disadvantaged and marginalised groups.Since its inception in 2002, CDD Society has worked on Community Based Sanitation, Citywide Sanitation Planning, Decentralised Solid Waste Management, and Decentralised Wastewater Treatment Systems. CDD has implemented 400 plus sanitation projects across India. The Society provides the above mentioned services through direct field implementation and transfer of knowledge to relevant implementation oriented stakeholders.
Job Title : Project Manager (PM)
Project : Strengthening the Operation & Maintenance Sector for Servicing Decentralized Urban Sanitation Infrastructure in Karnataka, India (O&M Project)
Project Duration : December 2014 to November 2015
Location : Bangalore
Reporting to : Coordination and Direction team of CDD Society
Objective:
PM is responsible for running and supervising the O&M project at all stages of the project management cycle. He/she is also responsible for accomplishing the projects objectives and outcomes within the contextual constraints. The PM ensures the overall success of the project by making sure the team (5-10 staff) completes the defined activities while adhering to internal standards and contractual obligations; and that the project is completed on time, within budget and with acceptable quality.
Further objectives for the PM concern the capacity building and mentoring of staff; recruitment, context analysis to contribute to the development of future projects; and internal coordination to reinforce CDD’s approach and integrate the project in the overall portfolio. The PM reports to the CDD Management.
Compensation offer: Commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary would not be a constraint for the right candidate and would be above the average standard.
Background: The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has awarded above tilted project grant to a German NGO called BORDA. BORDA in turn have selected CDD Society for implementation of the project. The project aims to support improved (enabling environment) O&M services for decentralised urban sanitation infrastructure in one city of the State of Karnataka, India.
Key Responsibilities: The PM is responsible for the overall planning, smooth implementation, monitoring and documentation of the project under the supervision of CDD Society Management and other involved actors (such as advisor from donor agency, external experts engaged, etc).
The PM manages the budget, monitors the expenditure, coordinates the preparation of forecasts, financial statements.
The PM tracks progress of activities, ensure collecting of project milestones and provide on-time internal status and external donor reports.
The PM identifies and monitors risks, constraints or escalating issues and informs the management of CDD accordingly.
The PM ensures that all data and information is updated, well organized and easily accessible and lessons learnt and best practices are capitalized.
The PM manages the teams’ performance of tasks and activities and provides technical support to them.
The PM will provide professional technical expert inputs in engineering water and sanitation systems, and demonstrate appropriate project management and team leadership.
The PM coordinates with other units to ensure a common approach, synergy and sharing of information.
The PM represents CDD Society externally and coordinates/collaborates with local authorities, donors, counterparts, partners and stakeholders.
Qualification and Experience :
Engineering degree (civil, mechanical, electrical and environment) with at least 10 years work experience and post graduate degree in Management will be preferred. Experience in managing teams is essential. Experience of working with the government and prior experience of managing water and sanitation projects or working with an INGO would be an added advantage.
