Re: Invitation to share your training resources

Hi Depinder,

Thank you for sharing your concerns. To your points:

• Yes, this work takes time. We have only just finished uploading and curating the resources. The next step is to do a simple analysis. I want to reiterate that we have not done an analysis yet. We merely made some general observations of the resources we found through our online search.
• The simple analysis that will be conducted will be shared on the forum to allow members to respond. If you have some ideas or suggestions on what you would want to see from this analysis, other than what I have suggested, please share them with us.
• As previously mentioned we have not analyzed the quality of any of the trainer manuals. This would require a lot of work – which would have to start with defining the characteristics of a good trainer manual. We do not plan to do this at this point. We have simply compiled and uploaded.
• I want to clarify what is meant by “developed to a publishable standard”. Many organizations create training materials informally for a specific training and don’t formalize them (e.g., copy-editing, formatting, packaging etc.). They therefore remain an internal resource to the organization and are not published online. We therefore did not find these resources. These are valuable resources and we encourage organizations to publish their training resources and share them with us.
• Having a point person from each country to share more resources would be valuable. I suggest writing a post on the forum and seeing who would be interested in taking on this role? We can then forward this post to various contacts to see if they are interested.

Cheers,

Sterenn

Re: Invitation to share your training resources

Hi Sterenn,

We shared our/SCBP material end of July. You uploaded it in August and thanked us for sharing. And you shared your analysis in September, without referring to our material. Strange.

Kindly share the framework of the "simple analysis" of trainer modules and seek inputs first.

In doing a simple analysis, please do not pass judgement on the quality of Modules "Not Developed to a Publishable Standard". This is not our job to certify standards. No one will share their modules if they see us passing judgements on their modules.

To take this work forward by Regions, we need a Group to be formed - even for South Asia. Kindly suggest names from Bangladesh, Nepal, Mynamar, Sri Lanka, India, Bhutan, Pakistan : to do both compilation and analysis of Training Modules.

Kindly share contacts as soon as possible.

NIUA offers to host this group for a meeting on 17th Nov at the World Toilet Organisation Summit in Mumbai. As a side conference of Susana Working Group 1.

Re: Invitation to share your training resources

Apologies for any confusion, the “few findings” shared were based on our online scan of training resources (prior to adding NIUA’s resources).

We have not conducted a formal analysis of the resources yet. We plan to do a simple analysis of the trainer manuals by topic and region in the next couple of weeks. We do not plan to analyze the quality of the trainer manuals.

If you are looking for a more in depth analysis of the resources, can you please suggest what type of analysis you had in mind?

Would you be able to share or upload other modules that you have found in India? Or provide a link to where these can be found?

Thanks,

Sterenn

Re: Invitation to share your training resources

Strange to know that no training module shared : covers Designing of Treatment facilities?

Sterenn, kindly go through the 5 Training Modules we shared - some both in Hindi and english. That you have also uploaded.

1. Advanced Training Module : is for Technology choice and Planning of FSTPs

2. DPR Preparation Module : Designing of FSTPs.

Kindly acknowledge and revise your post.

It would be good if the Susana Working Group 1 forms a group to Training Modules. And to take this work forward.

In India we are doing this for the modules produced in India for FSM.

Re: Invitation to share your training resources

We have finished uploading training resources!
But we are always looking to add more. Please continue to share your resources.

The library now has:
• 82 trainer manuals ( Link )
• 11 games ( Link )
• 30 Course outlines ( Link )

We would also like to share a few findings from conducting this scan for training resources:
• Trainer manuals were the easiest type of resource to find on the internet.
• A lot more training resources exist, but they are (1) not developed to a publishable standard (2) they are not open source or (3) the organization does not have time to upload resources.
• A lot of the trainer manuals are focused on demand creation. Many countries and organizations have a demand creation policy and have therefore developed trainer manuals to implement their approach. For example, CLTS trainer manuals are quite common.
• There are some trainer manuals on latrine design, community health promotion, behavior change, entrepreneurship.
• We found only 1 training resource targeted to emptiers. We found no training resources for treatment facility designers, managers and operators.

Cheers,

Sterenn

Invitation to share your training resources

Share your training resources!

To increase knowledge sharing among our members, we have created a new category in the SuSanA library called “Training resources”. This category currently includes three filters (these are all for adult learning, we might add further filters for children learning later): *

• Trainer manuals
• Games and activities
• Syllabus and course outlines

Do you have training resources you think would be valuable to share with others?
If so, please bring them to our attention so we can upload them to the SuSanA library. It’s easy, just reply to this post in this forum thread the title and link (if available) to your training resource. We will then take it from there, and follow-up with you. If you are a SuSanA partner, you can actually upload these resources yourself (see below for instructions)

We have already populated the library with training resources but there are plenty more out there. As part of the BMGF funded project “Scaling-up capacity building in non-sewered sanitation” **, CAWST has done an online search for training resources. We have uploaded about 90 documents so far, and you can find them here by using the filter “training resources”: www.susana.org/en/knowledge-hub/resource...8&vbl_2%5B%5D=&test=

People who work for SuSanA partners can even upload documents to the library themselves. This is done via the partner profile page which looks e.g. like this (for EAWAG): www.susana.org/en/community/partners/list/details/152
Don’t know if your employer is already a SuSanA partner? Check here: www.susana.org/en/community/partners/list
There are 335 partners so far.

We look forward to hearing from you.
Sterenn & Elisabeth
