Re: A chemical Engineer seeking for research ideas to pursue PhD in Nigeria

Hello TklNet,

To build up on Chris' response in rendering some help on this, (if your Phd hasnt commenced already), could you share a bit more about your background and what specifically draws you to Faecal Sludge Management (FSM) or Waste Water Treatment (WWT)? Have you had any experience or exposure to these fields during your academic or professional journey so far? Additionally, have you had a chance to explore any existing literature or resources related to FSM or WWT that might provide some initial insights or ideas?

Chris mentioned a book that could be helpful—did you get a chance to read it, and if so, did it spark any ideas or areas of interest for your PhD research?

While at face value, you may feel that these fields may still be relatively untapped in Nigeria, you might discover that significant work has been done in the country in the area of FSM and WWT. One approach to narrowing down your focus could be to engage with public sector institutions within Nigeria that could benefit from the results of your PhD work. This could not only help you identify a relevant and impactful area of study but also establish potential partnerships or collaborations for your research.

Here are some organizations in Nigeria that i found via a quick google search that may be working in the field of FSM and WWT that you might find helpful:
WaterAid Nigeria
Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission (LSWRC)
Nigerian Water Supply Association (NWSA)
Nigerian Water and Sanitation Association(NIWASA)
Federal Ministry of Water Resources (FMWR)
Centre for Population and Environmental Development (CPED)
Society for Water and Sanitation (NEWSAN)

Engaging with these organizations could provide valuable insights, resources, and potential avenues for your PhD research in FSM or WWT.

All the very best to you and keep us posted. SuSanA is always keen on sharing and even publishing relevant research outcomes and members are always willing to support students. Looking forward to seeing the progress of your work on here.

Regards,

You will need to share a bit more about you professional background and which University you are planning to enroll at for this PhD.

A good overview on FSM can be found in this free eBook: www.susana.org/en/knowledge-hub/resource...ibrary/details/3591#
