Good idea to start such a thread!
We would like to present a nice example of the local use of urine from UDDT in the Issyk Kul region in Kyrgyzstan, a project of the Kyrgyz Alliance for Water and Sanitation (KAWS) and WECF. Around 100 UDDTs in the region have been installed since more two years now and people mostly appreciate the comfort of the new toilet - no smell, can be installed close to the house. Due to good experiences, there is a growing demand for UDDT and a micro credit scheme with a social interest rate is being set up now. The monitoring is ongoing by KAWS so that there is a good understanding of the situation.
The fertilising factor of the urine is an additional benefit which the users realise more and more. Still a number of users are reluctant to apply the urine on crops to be eaten. That is why a serie of workshops is currently carried out where the users share their experiences. These workshops are crucial for sustainability, so that people can learn from each other, get some peer-feedback and can support each other with such a technology that still is new.
