CALL FOR PAPERS Special Issue of Environmental Engineering Science Innovative Global Solutions for Bioenergy Production
Guest Editors: Sarina Ergas and James Mihelcic, University of South Florida Kartik Chandran and Maureen Kinyua, Columbia University Piet Lens and Peter van der Steen, UNESCO-IHE Caitlyn Butler, University of Massachusetts, Amherst
Biological waste-to-energy technologies can help meet global energy needs while stabilizing domestic, agricultural and industrial waste materials. This special issue of Environmental Engineering Science seeks high quality, high impact papers on the topic of Innovative Global Solutions for Bioenergy Production. We are particularly interested in papers focused on developing world biological waste-to-energy technologies, as these systems can provide fuel for cooking, heating and electricity generation, while also improving public health, recovering nutrients for use as fertilizers and reducing deforestation and greenhouse gas emissions. Planned topics will include: ? Bioenergy recovery from various substrates, such as domestic, agricultural and industrial wastewater, livestock waste, fecal sludge, municipal solid waste (e.g. food waste) or agricultural residues. * Advances in biological waste-to-energy technologies such as liquid and high-solids anaerobic digestion, bio-hydrogen, biofuels (e.g. ethanol and biodiesel), algae and bioelectricity. * Appropriate system designs for different scales or applications, such as households, small communities, cities, or informal urban settlements (e.g. slums). ? Research focused on solving developing world energy problems, while also addressing public health, environmental and food security issues for growing populations or regions impacted by climate change. ? Research that bridges social, cultural and technical challenges of bioenergy production. ? Mathematical modeling and/or life cycle assessments of bioenergy systems.
The deadline for abstract submission is DECEMBER 15, 2015. Please submit abstracts for preliminary review by the editorial committee to This email address is being protected from spambots.
