The Kenya Sanitation Conference

Dear Water and Sanitation Colleagues,

The Kenyan Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation hosted the first Sanitation Conference between 28th and 31st October 2019.
The conference provided a forum for safe, practical, scalable, sustainable solutions towards containment, collection, transport, treatment, reuse and disposal of wastewater and sludge in rural and urban contexts. Themes: covered were Governance, Financing, Equity, Inclusion, Innovation, Technologies and Sanitation in Emergencies.
The conference ended with deliberations that culminated into short, medium and long term commitments read by the Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation in the final communique. Stakeholders that attended the conference were made up of sanitation sector professionals in national mandated institutions, academics, civil society, development partners and the private sector.
During the conference, women professionals united to inspire each other and spotlight pressing issues such as the overarching Agenda2030 “leave no one behind” principle, empowerment, leadership and women’s meaningful participation in the sanitation sector.
