Rethinking Rural Sanitation at UNC, Monday 29th
If you are attending UNC, Water and Health 2018 we invite you to join UNICEF, WaterAid and Plan International for a side event
Rethinking Rural Sanitation:
Guidance on Costing and Approaches
Date: Monday 29th October
Time: 10:30 – 12:00
Venue: Wildflower, UNC
In rural sanitation, the predominant approaches have focused on collective behaviour change (CLTS, CATS) or market mechanisms (market development interventions). To meet the SDG targets, and ensure that no one is left behind, the rethinking and evolution of conventional approaches to rural sanitation programming is an urgent priority.
WaterAid, Plan International and UNICEF have recently completed a joint project to consolidate existing evidence and experience on rural sanitation programming and create guidance on how to design, cost and implementation of rural sanitation.
Join us as we share a guidance document, on sanitation approaches, which helps the user examine the conditions under which their rural sanitation programmes will operate, and provides tailored recommendations on the approaches and strategies that might work best. It builds on existing sector evidence and has been produced for rural policy-makers, planners and implementers. It ultimately aims to promote more flexible, inclusive and context- sensitive rural sanitation programming.
The objective for the side event is to publicly launch and disseminate the guidance documents, and create a space for discussion about how best to use the guidance in order to maximize its benefits, and address any challenges or remaining questions. It builds on last year’s side event on the same topic, which presented the plans and initial thinking on this front.
Hope to see you there!
Kind Regards,
Connie
