Re: SEI Science Forum "At the Intersection between Environment and Development" - watch live on the web: 4 June, 10:00 CEST
Thanks for posting the links to these filmed presentations from your science forum, Arno.
I just listened to the presentation by Melinda Gates and found it really interesting to understand better how the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation "ticks". She didn't mention water, sanitation and hygiene in her talk (pity) but a lot of the aspects that she touched on related also to our topic. Such as: the importance of "going upstream" of the disease (focussing on prevention), the importance of behavior change aspects, the fact that science is at the core of all our learnings, the importance of learning in the organisation, also learning from failures (she gives one example of a failure when they invested only in the drug to treat a disease but didn't consider enough the causes of the disease). She talks about empowering women and girls and how important that is.
I really enjoyed the talk and the moderation by your director, Johan Kuylenstierna, was also very nice.
Thanks for sharing this all online.
Regards,
Elisabeth

Melinda Gates, Co-chair and Trustee of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, addresses gender aspects of global development. Filmed at the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) Science Forum 2015. Visit www.sei-international.org for more information and follow @SEIresearch on Twitter
The person who introduced Melinda and chaired the day is: Johan Kuylenstierna, Executive Director of Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), opens proceedings for the SEI Science Forum 2015.
About the SEI Science Forum:
The SEI Science Forum 2015 includes presentations from special guests including Melinda Gates, Co-chair and Trustee of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation; Jacques Lapouge, France's Ambassador to Sweden and former ambassador for climate change negotiations; and Ulrika Modéer, Sweden’s State Secretary for International Development Cooperation.
And of course, distinguished SEI researchers deliver engaging, informative and essential presentations. 2015 is the year that the international community is hammering out key agreements – on climate, on development financing and on the global Sustainable Development Goals.
SEI has been providing knowledge and solutions for sustainability for the past 25 years. The knowledge and experience of the institute's staff has never been more important and in demand.
