Re: New short-term learning group for the “WASH systems strengthening: the basics” course (IRC WASH systems academy) during November 2019 – all welcome
Hi Franziska und Amanda,
Thank you very much for your email about joining a learning group for IRC's "WASH systems strengthening: the basics". It is a great idea, but in actual fact, three of us have already completed this course (during the first facilitation period in September). We are now interested in taking part in the next course on exploring the actual WASH building blocks.
'Just to let you know, we are attempting to adopt WASH Systems Strengthening as our chief programme / project design approach. For us this means exploring how we do that in both Humanitarian and Fragile States contexts. We have put together a draft tool for our WASH staff (and partner WASH staff), and will be beginning to facilitate its use in Rwanda next month. We'll let you know how it goes (before we share the tool).
Anyway, I wanted to let you know that we are very interested in pursuing WASH Systems thinking, and would value teaming up with you at some point.
Many thanks for inviting us,
Warm Regards,
Frank

Re: RE: New short-term learning group for the ?WASH systems strengthening: the basics? course (IRC WASH systems academy) during November 2019 ? all welcome
Hi,
it seems that the announcement mobilised some more people to register for the course such that the participant limit (I think it is at 200) was reached over the weekend. We are sorry, that not everyone could register to the course and join the learning group. But the good news is, that there will be more courses in the coming months (6 more basics courses, and 8 more specialist courses, see here www.ircwash.org/wash-systems-academy).
We have a group of around 10 together so far and will see how the exchange goes - maybe the group can "survive" to the upcoming courses.
Best regards,
Franziska

New short-term learning group for the “WASH systems strengthening: the basics” course (IRC WASH systems academy) during November 2019 – all welcome
Dear members,
Have you ever thought about how we could make the pieces of the WASH puzzle fit together better? If you answered yes to that question, or you have ever wondered how you could do this, then we have great news for you!
This November, the WASH Systems Academy (www.ircwash.org/wash-systems-academy) will start its second WASH System’s Strengthening (www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/wash-systems-stre...-tickets-60055896804): The Basics two weeks course. We registered for the very first course that starts on 18 November 2019 and would like to set up a 2 week learning community during the course to exchange on each of the 10 sessions.
In case you are also attending the course, or planning to do so, and would like to join our small learning group – everyone is welcome to join so that we can together get closer to making WASH Systems all around the world stronger and more sustainable!
The format of the learning group is still flexible; we would suggest a WhatsApp group chat with text and voice messages to discuss the following aspects:
• What did I learn?
• What do I not understand (yet)?
• And the bonus question 😊 How could I apply this is in my work?
Please feel free to suggest other/more convenient sharing options other than WhatsApp. We could also use the SuSanA Forum for a summary of learnings after the course, but the intention for the group during the course is to have a small and safe space for exchange. In case we will set up the group based on mobile phone numbers, you do not need to post them in the Forum, but kindly send them to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
The registration to the online course can be found here (the course is free): www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/wash-systems-stre...-tickets-60055896804
“The course will be your introduction to everything you need to know about system thinking and WASH. This foundational course consists of 10 interactive and engaging sessions dedicated to topics such as the origins and rationale for a systems strengthening approach, hygiene promotion, service ladders, how to leave no one behind—among many other topics. You will also learn about the building blocks of the WASH system; what they are and how they collectively create sustainable WASH systems.
By the end of the basic course of the Academy you will have a solid understanding of:
-What exactly is a WASH systems strengthening approach
-How and why it was developed
-How to start applying it in your work”
Time requirements for the course:
• Duration: 16 hours for completion within 2 weeks (we planned to complete the course between 18 November and 1 December)
• Content: water, sanitation and hygiene
• The general course consists of 10 sessions, which take between 1-2 hours to complete.
Best regards,
Franziska & Amanda
