Why Toilet is Not a Prem Katha(Love Story): My latest column in Six Degrees!

Hi,

The Supreme Court of India has just ruled in favour of Right to Privacy as a Fundamental Right to all citizens. Defecation is a private act and about half of Indians conduct this private affair of theirs in public places.

Should we be respecting this #RightToPrivacy or not? Please read my latest column in SixDegreesNews!

Look forward to your comments and feedback.

Thanks and regards,

Ranjan

Dear Rajan,

Thank you for posting your article. It was good for me to get a glimpse into the current status of India's drive to eliminate OD.

I think you are right to point out that a state-led campaigns with targets that are very ambitious, especially withregard to time, can lead to local authorities taking overly coercive actions. The same is probably true for NGO led activities with unrealisticy short time-frames. As urgent as the need for improved santiation is, I think we should think in decades rather than years if we want to do things sustainably and equitable.
