Mr. Guenter,

I have seen the issues. They are interesting. Please come up with more issues, one on sanitation technologies appropriate for the urban, peri-urban and rural areas of developing countries; and the other one on how to increase access to safe sanitation in developing countries. Please include aspects of hygiene and environmental health, as well. Thanks.

I am happy to announce that issue 17 of Sustainable Sanitation Practice (ISSN 2308-5797) is published and can be downloaded free of charge now from www.ecosan.at/ssp/

During the last year we received several papers that have not been in line with the specific issues produced. But still they are worth publishing and therefore we decided to publish 4 of these papers in this issue of SSP:

  1. Elisabeth von Muench and colleagues describe how the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation uses the SuSanA discussion forum for linking their projects,
  2. Chhavi Raj Bhatt presents a study from Nepal in which he assessed non-household toilet facilities in the Kathmandu Valley
  3. Arago Jr. and Sarabia describe results from experiments in the Philippines of using human urine for fertilizing okra, and
  4. Abdel-Shafy and Mansour discuss removing pharmaceutical compounds from urine using Fenton Reaction.

best regards,
Guenter Langergraber
(editor SSP journal)

From 12-14 June 2013, the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research (Helmholtz-Zentrum fuer Umweltforschung – UFZ) hosted a three-day workshop in Leipzig, Germany. The format of the UFZ Wetland Workshop was different from that of a traditional conference. During 90-minute blocks of time (eight blocks in total over two days) where we had the opportunity for a 30-minute presentation followed by a 60-minute discussion session on specific topics related to wetlands.

Summaries of six sessions on various aspects of treatment wetland research and implementation as well as a report on discussions and observations of yellowing reeds in treatment wetlands are included in Issue 18 of SSP.
