Dear friends of the “urine to fertilizer”idea,
I start here a new topic under the theme "Urine reuse", even so it could also fit to other topics as well.
The idea of processing urine to fertilizer is getting more and more momentum, with pilot projects popping up not only at the northern hemisphere. Also in the south scientist are discovering the huge
potentials of collecting and processing this valuable resource. To facilitate those efforts, we have now designed a new user-friendly urine diverting toilet bowl for waterless toilets. This new
urine diverting toilet bowl for UDDT´s shall soon be produced in an elegant
ceramic version. After one decade of silence around the Otji Toilet we have meanwhile
further developed our well documented UDS-toilet bowl. Our first urine
diversion toilet bowl was introduced in 2010 and further improved in 2015. It
works without two-chamber-system and is therefore very user-friendly. With our
current development we designed a ceramic toilet bowl where urine flows
trouble-free into a 50mm vertical drainpipe – no clogging and no cross-contamination.
We expect this ceramic toilet bowl “Otji 3.0” to enter the market early next
year. Interesting is also the dual functioning of the “Otji 3.0”. The
urine-outlet can simply be closed with a rubber stopper to use the “Otji 3.0” for
any non-UDS VIP.

We are currently evaluating the market potential for this product to determine quantity of production. We are planning to bring that South-South-Product on the market at a price range which is similar to comparable plastic pedestals. With these three questions we like to get a basic idea about potential demand at different regions.
1. Is dry sanitation a frequently present sanitation solution at your country/region?
2. Is there a demand for waterless ceramic pedestals in your country/region?
3. Is urine-diversion a subject at your country/region?
We are thankful for every feedback from stakeholders and observes in the field of waterless sanitation including VIP.
Kind regards,
Peter Arndt
