Re: Follow up of webinar - Turning crisis into opportunity: Improving healthcare waste management and WASH during the COVID-19 pandemic

Dear Vannel,

unfortunately there is no recording of the webinar. But if you have any questions on this topic, then please put them in this thread.

In my previous post you can also find the presentations and the publication (No Time to Waste - Transforming healthcare waste management for a healthier, more sustainable Nepal) that was presented during the webinar.

Kind regards,
Christian

Re: Follow up of webinar - Turning crisis into opportunity: Improving healthcare waste management and WASH during the COVID-19 pandemic

On behalf of the Sustainable Sanitation Alliance(SuSanA) and GIZ (Sustainable Sanitation Programme & Support to the Health Sector Programme Nepal) you are kindly invited to join our upcoming webinar on

Turning crisis into opportunity: Improving healthcare waste management and WASH during the COVID-19 pandemic

on Wednesday, May 13, 2020, 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM (UTC+01:00).

Rationale
With the COVID-19 pandemic, we are experiencing arapid increase in healthcare waste. Countries and health systems are struggling
to safely manage and dispose of this waste in a way that does not compromise human health and the environment. Even before this pandemic, an assessment by WHO/UNICEF showed that the majority of countries lack basic waste management services in their healthcare facilities (2019). Burning waste in open pits, dumping untreated waste in landfills and contaminated water supplies are common in many resource constrained environments.

Now is the time to take action!

Among others, these main questions will be addressed during the webinar:
  • Why is healthcare waste management an integral part of WASH in HealthCare facilities?
  • What are sustainable approaches for building comprehensive healthcare waste management systems?
  • What are the challenges?
  • How can we scale up such interventions?
Looking forward to an interesting discussion and experience sharing.

Follow up of webinar - Turning crisis into opportunity: Improving healthcare waste management and WASH during the COVID-19 pandemic

Dear SuSanA members,

on behalf of SuSanA and GIZ (Sustainable Sanitation Programme & Support to the Health Sector Programme Nepal) you are kindly invited to join our upcoming webinar on "Turning crisis into opportunity: Improving healthcare waste management and WASH during the COVID-19 pandemic".

Date: 13 May 2020 (via MS Teams)
Time: 13:00 - 14:00 PM CEST
Registration and further details:  www.susana.org/en/healthcare-waste-management-and-wash

With the COVID-19 pandemic, we are experiencing a rapid increase in healthcare waste. Countries and health systems are struggling to safely manage and dispose of this waste in a way that does not compromise human health and the environment.

Even before this pandemic, an assessment by WHO/UNICEF showed that the majority of countries lack basic waste management services in their healthcare facilities (WHO/UNICEF 2019).  Burning waste in open pits, dumping untreated waste in landfills and contaminated water supplies are common in many resource constrained environments.

Now is the time to take action!

During the webinar we will explore the following questions and want to use the forum to dive deeper into this topic:

  • Why is healthcare waste management an integral part of WASH in healthcare facilities?
  • What are sustainable approaches for building comprehensive healthcare waste management systems?
  • What are the challenges?
  • How can we scale up such interventions?

Later on, a short synthesis of the online discussion will be generated to improve knowledge management and help practitioners to move forward in their field.

We are looking forward to your participation!

Best regards,
Christian
