Re: Concept of Massive Open Online Courses for SUSANA and its members & users?

Dear ALL

Any qualitative good cMOOC (c = connectivity, “creativity, autonomy and social networked learning”) on sustainable sanitation is needed. It does not have to be called "SUSANA's cMOOC". If EAWAG is maybe going for it, many around the world would be happy to take part. But, if it is only a kind of teaching through a payment through their regular University courses on sanitation, it would end up to be "only" a xMOOC (x = based on traditional courses) and not so helpful to a world wide audience. Re: Concept of Massive Open Online Courses for SUSANA and its members & users?

Dear Detlef
We had shortly discussed but focussed during the meeting on how the group could engage in SuSanA activities regarding to the SuSanA roadmap. This means we asked ourself what SuSanA thus mean for the members of WG1 and what those members could contribute – please see here for a short feedback from the meeting: forum.susana.org/forum/categories/10-by-...mit=12&start=24#5867
I hope to continue the discussion during the next meeting – I see mainly opportunities to work together on a overview on existing training activities and tools relevant to SuSanA and others interested in Sustainable Sanitation. If there is a group that forms motivated to contribute more activity to this pool of resources, e.g. by developping MOOC on sanitation (e.g. on Coursera, Eawag will may do that in the framework of their regular University courses on sanitation).
Best regards

Coursera.org is also an excellent resource for MOCC classes. There are no classes for sanitation as of yet, but there are courses on Public Health, Epidemiology, etc.

Dear Dorothee and dear Trevor,

What are the practical results of 17th SuSanA meeting on possible cMOOC's by SUSANA and its members and users? Do you had discussions about at HQ and meeting?

Re: Want to build a WASH MOOC?

Greetings from Berlin, this is Shane from Allversity. Allversity is a digital gathering place built to help people learn, teach, and connect using free digital courses and tools. We start by providing access to existing open educational materials in traditional subjects like math and history. We then take it a step further, partnering with global organizations to build other courses and materials about more practical topics like health, agriculture, entrepreneurship, life skills, and rights. Our courses are fun, they’re challenging, and are designed to empower our students and their communities. We launched two weeks ago and are already connecting with hundreds of beta-users in community knowledge centers across Africa.

Allversity.org wants to make a simple course about Water, Access, Sanition and Hygiene: anyone want to join us?

We now want to find partners build a simple. clear and effective course that community health workers, teachers, and individuals can use to improve sanitation in their own communities. Anybody know any organizations that would be interested in this kind of project?

Want to know more about Allversity?

I think the best thing for anyone wanting to learn about the project is just to check it out. You can look at the site: www.allversity.org. You can learn about us on Facebook at www.facebook.com and follow us at www.twitter.com/allversity. You can read about the project here: www.allversity.org/about

The Allversity platform itself is already built, and is still growing. Right now we have released a minimum viable product and are working to improve on it... there is much more to come. Anyone wanting to understand how it works can just take it for a little spin!

Re: Concept of Massive Open Online Courses for SUSANA and its members & users?

After passing through my first cMOOC, here are my very subjective view about the first cMOOC- trail by Ellen McArthur Foundation EMAF:

1. Content and organization on the chosen topic "general Circular Economy, CE" information by EMAF especial most of the cMOOC-webinars been very good.

2. One weekly exercises "Forum take over", a kind of limited 1 hour exchange of individual postings between participants and between EMAF-staff on a particular subject, was in my opinion pretty useless and only a weekly frustration as the platform by it self did not allow to keep overview on all incoming postings. I am guessing, even native English speakers had problems to keep track.

3. Unfortunately, there was not enough participants to exchange with others e.g. on "Sanitation in Circular Economy = SUSANA" ideas.

4. The cMOCC platform used was in my opinion made by IT-nerds & made for IT-nerds, unfortunately not for "normal" users/dummies like me. It was too cumbersome and frustrating, despite trying later Chrome-browser.

My main recommendation to SUSANA:

A platform for a possible SUSANA-cMOOC might not be chosen by typical IT-nerds, as they might have forgotten how "normal" users/dummies like me can handle very complex IT-platforms. Simplicity will bring more results for a large number of cMOOC-users, them high sophisticated setups. Simple setups might be as well ease the participation for people with slow/bad Internet connections. Use plain English at chosen platform to be inclusive for many non-native English speakers!

Re: Concept of Massive Open Online Courses for SUSANA and its members & users?

How cloud computing and the 'internet of things' could facilitate the development of a circular economy?

Hi all,

Ella Jamsin, Business Analyst at the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, will be presenting her views on how cloud computing and the 'internet of things' could facilitate the development of a circular economy. Ella will present for around 20 minutes, after which we will take questions from the audience.

Many of our webinars so far have looked at the big picture of a circular economy, so this is chance to hear about how one specific technological trend could work within a circular economy framework.

FYI: cMOOC- Event Information webinar on "Challenging thinking"

ellenmacarthurfoundation.webex.com/mw030...nmacarthurfoundation

tonight's webinar from Colin Webster, on Challenging thinking: the Ellen MacArthur Foundation's education programme. Many of you have mentioned in the forum that you are interested in communicating and engaging others around the cMOOC, so this could be a good event to attend.

Colin will present for around 20 minutes on his work and interests in education and the circular economy, after which he will take questions from the audience.

I look forward to seeing you there.

Re: Concept of Massive Open Online Courses for SUSANA and its members & users?

Dear Trevor,

Maybe have your very own cMOOC-experiences first, up to the end of June. You are already at the mentioned first Trail-cMOOC on "Circular Economy" of Ellen MacArthur Foundation like me too. I hope I am not disclosing your little secrets ;-)
Susana-Link: Plain language introduction to the concept of a circular economy

I am not sure we watsan guys are the right crowd to ask for "MOOC requirements from the technical side of things". I know only Mr. Eichholz of this Susana crowd, who is "informed" about IT & watsan+++.

Further more on the pure technical side of things, I recommend to you first hand and straight collaboration with your/our moderator at mentioned cMOOC, who is learning by doing and very helpful too :)):
