Re: Updates about SuSanA Working Group 3 and new title: "Climate mitigation and adaptation, including renewable energy, energy efficiency and resilience"

Dear Elisabeth,

sorry for not getting back to you earlier. We put the title proposal up for discussion in
the forum a while before the working group was officially renamed. The response
was largely positive. At recommendation, we subsequently added the subtitle
before officially changing the title.

Nevertheless, I think your question is quite valid. If you google the two terms, you will
find more hits for "climate change mitigation" than for "climate
mitigation". But the term "climate mitigation" is also used on
the web by a number of respected institutions. Here are some examples:

www.siwi.org/latest/why-water-is-crucial-to-climate-mitigation/
www.wri.org/insights/5-strategies-achiev...ation-simultaneously
www.giz.de/en/worldwide/28499.html
www.imf.org/en/Publications/Departmental...igation-Policy-49639
www.bmwi.de/Redaktion/EN/Publikationen/t...=publicationFile&v=2

I also think that "Climate Mitigation" is less unwieldy in the title of WG3.
Since the use of this term seems to be quite common, if somewhat casual, we
would like to refrain from changing it.

The use of the term "Climate Adaptation" seem even less problematic to me. If
you google it, you will find more hits for "climate adaptation" than
for "climate change adaptation". Climate adaptation is for example
used on the following web pages:

climate-adapt.eea.europa.eu/
www.unep.org/explore-topics/climate-acti...o/climate-adaptation
www.wri.org/insights/key-points-climate-...tion-new-ipcc-report
www.cas2021.com/

Best regards,

Thorsten

Re: Updates about SuSanA Working Group 3 and new title: "Climate mitigation and adaptation, including renewable energy, energy efficiency and resilience"

... I am just wondering why you left out the word "change" in your new title?
Shouldn't it be "Climate change mitigation and adaptation".
I think in most publications, the term is "climate change adaptation", not "climate adaptation", see also the Wikipedia article on this topic: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Climate_change_adaptation

Updates about SuSanA Working Group 3 and new title: "Climate mitigation and adaptation, including renewable energy, energy efficiency and resilience"

Dear all,

we have recently updated our working group 3 webpage and adapted the focus. So far only climate mitigation, renewable energies and energy efficiency have been objects of the working group. With the changes we have widened the focus by also including the topic of climate change adaptation. This is reflected in the updated paragraphs “Background” and
“Objectives”. Please have a look on our working group page .

The wider objective of the working group also implies to adapt its title. After internal discussion, we would like to rename the working group from “renewable energy and climate change” to "Climate mitigation and adaptation, including renewable energy, energy efficiency and resilience".

This title leaves more space for all crosscutting issues related to climate change and sanitation.

Kind regards,

Thorsten and Sören
