Research Call - International comparative study of institutional frameworks for urban sanitation in countries with significant decentralisation: lessons for Kenya?

This research project is commissioned under the Urban Sanitation Research Initiative Kenya , which is a 2017-2020 research programme core-funded by UK aid from the UK government, and managed by Water & Sanitation for the Urban Poor (WSUP) in formal partnership with the Kenyan Water Services Regulatory Board (WASREB) and the Kenyan Ministry of Health (Division of Environmental Health).

The project will deliver a) an international comparative study of institutional frameworks for urban sanitation in countries with significant decentralisation, and b) an associated research-into-policy component to provide recommendations to Kenyan government stakeholders around possible framework restructuring in Kenya. Component A should be viewed as rigorous academic research leading to publication in a peer-reviewed journal. We envisage that the two components would likely be organised by two separate teams.

We welcome bids led by either Kenyan or non-Kenyan organisations with relevant expertise, and will make our decision on the basis of bid quality, not geographical location or nationality; however, in view of the research-into-policy component, strong bids will likely be led by a Kenyan organisation or include suitably qualified Kenyan organisations/individuals as subcontractors or team members.

Maximum budget under this Call: GBP 80,000
Bids due: Before 1700 hours (UK) Monday 2nd October 2017
Location: Kenya, international

Full information about the Call and how to bid can be found in the attachment or on the WSUP website .
