Manhole Covers with Art in Japan

Manhole Covers with Art in Japan

I always enjoy when a unpleasant thing is presented in a pleasant and beautiful way.

According to a recent news in a local paper ( www.dawn.com/news/1382981/japan-sewers-c...act-with-manhole-art ), Japan’s sewerage industry has found a way to clean up its dirty and smelly image: elaborately designed and colourful manhole covers with 12,000 local varieties nationwide — including, of course, a Hello Kitty design. The link contains a combo of pictures of beautiful design of manhole covers in Kawaguchi, Saitama prefecture.

Mr. Mikio Narashima, head of the city’s sewage system division, says: “We’d be happy if people come and take some time for a stroll in our town while looking for the Hello Kitty manholes.”

It is extremely nice to see manhole covers with fancy designs. Unfortunately, in Karachi, one can find poor quality manhole covers, at times broken, with sewage oozing out.
