One of the ways to tackle this is using social accountability tools such as community dialogues and service score cards. In all these the health centre should also be involved. As they discuss the concerns about the hygiene situation guide them to own the process of remedying the situation.

Thanks Charlotte,

We recently created a Watsapp "SOLDIS" discussion forum (pending the current Facebook page) in which several health personnel and volunteers designated "repporters" Hygiene promoters must post images and comments on all questions of WASH considered as precarious in healthcare settings or outside in the community.

Note, however, that at the same time there will be a long-term question of strengthening the capacities of hygiene promoters periodically, providing them with hygiene resources, and encouraging managers of health facilities mapped "at risk" to include the construction of latrines and hospital hygiene resources in their business plans. Despite the will of the "SOLDIS" collective, resources are lacking and we need a technical and financial partner in Cameroon to move from PathoWASH images to ProWASH images.

Dear Abdou Aziz,
Welcome to the SuSanA discussion forum.
Thank you for your post on what you are currently doing.
Could you let us know what the volunteers (SOLDIS) have been able to find as alternatives to the sanitation problem.
If you have any online platform please include it here as well.
Looking forward to further communication from you.

Improving hygiene and sanitation in a sustainable manner in health centers in the outskirts of Cameroon by recruiting and then training hygiene promoters and their financial management

My greetings to all the forum experts,
I am Cameroonian, Epidemiologist by training, PhD PhD student at the end of the cycle in public health (University of Buéa). As part of a Public Health Program for which I work in Cameroon (western region), community satisfaction surveys of patients who have visited hospitals (sampled) are organized each quarter. The results show recurrent complaints from patients and users of health facilities in almost all health centers on the level of precarious hygiene due to the lack of water, the absence / or not enough toilets ( very poorly maintained). The nursing staff say they do not have enough time to devote to hygiene, they favor care. This is explained by the absence of maintenance agents (hygiene promoter) and also the absence of substantial financial resources in the budget lines (credit cards). To solve this problem, we thought of setting up an association of volunteers (SOLDIS) recently which will have the mission to find alternatives to sanitation in health care settings as sick as its users. We are a group in the making and the contribution (of all kinds in the reflections) of the SuSanA Experts is welcome ...
