We are happy to inform you that on account of the overwhelming amount of requests received, the deadline for the submission of abstracts for the 6th International Dry Toilet Conference 2018 has been extended to 15.01.2018.

Global Dry Toilet Association of Finland is happy to announce that The 6th International Dry Toilet Conference 2018 – Dry Toilet Goes Circular will be held in Tampere, Finland on 22nd – 24th August 2018. The conference venue is Hiedanranta, a former industrial area by the Lake Näsijärvi converted into a platform for experiments and innovations on modern urban planning and practices of circular economy. The venue features a unique dry sanitation system, making it especially suitable for the conference.

The theme of the conference is Dry Toilet Goes Circular with a focus on Cooperation, Co-creation and Experimentation. Building on the experiences and the excellent feedback from the previous conferences, the aim of the conference is to act as a forum for various stakeholders to meet and discuss sustainable sanitation and its practices all over the world.

In this conference the majority of the papers will be presented at interactive, result-oriented workshops, where a variety of themes will be covered and the results of the discussions will be shared with the entire conference audience at plenary sessions. Selected participants will also be assigned the honor and responsibility of acting as co-chairs of these workshop sessions, being thus able to gain experience in managing discussion and taking notes.

We would like to invite abstracts on the following themes:
- implemented practices of ecological sanitation
- menstrual health and gender equality
- research on the safe use of excreta and/or urine
- social and cultural aspects of sustainable sanitation
- sanitation and nutrient recycling in business
- cross-organisational cooperation and co-creation
- hi- and low-tech solutions in urban/rural environment
- ecosan meets water-food-energy nexus
- promoting sustainable sanitation and nutrient recycling among different stakeholders
- community engagement
- other topics fitting to the overall scope of the event.

All the abstracts and full papers will be peer reviewed by our international and highly qualified Scientific Committee.

The contents of the abstracts

Abstracts should answer the following questions: Why? How? and So What?
In more detail: What was the objective? What was done and how? Which methods were used? What were the results and the lessons learned?
