Dear Yanti,
Your project sounds interesting, and I'm sure we would be very curious to read a report of your findings. We would appreciate it very much if you pass it on.
Kind regards,
Peter

Re: Investigating the social determinants of open defecation in India
Dear Peter,
I am Yanti, from Indonesia.
I just finished my PhD project understanding determinants of sanitation uptake and sustainability in rural Bali, Indonesia
Bali is a province in Indonesia which majority of its population are Hindu.
I found many interesting cultural aspects influencing sanitation uptake and sustainability in the area.
If you are interested in some of the results, i can share my draft of paper on that topic.
Thank you
Warm regards
Yanti

Re: Reply: Investigating the social determinants of open defecation in India
Dear Mr. Peter,
That is great. I would suggest that, if possible, you may develop a questionnaire and send it to this forum, and to your contacts. That way, you will, hopefully, get a range of experiences from different regions (East Asia, South Asia, Africa, etc).
Kind regards,
F H Mughal

We have actually already been in communication with Diane Coffey and Dean Spears, but we appreciate your offer to make introductions. Their work is certainly relevant to this project.
Thanks very much in any case!

Hi Dr. Goyal,
Is there anything specific that you’re interested in about this project? I’d be happy to provide further details as I am able.
Best,
Peter

Re: Investigating the social determinants of open defecation in India
Hi James,
I'm glad to hear that you're interested in the role of social norms and behavioral change. We won't be doing much with fecal sludge management on this project, but we'd certainly be happy to share our findings, measures, and so forth as soon as we have finished collecting and analyzing data. We will be finishing gathering data for the first phase of our project, in which we measure social networks, this fall. Feel free to reach out to me directly if you have specific questions.
The best of luck to you on your PhD research in the meantime.
Best,
Peter
