Re: Sandec FSM video

Hello Linda,

This is a very interesting project.Thank you for your video. As I am an environmental engineering student from the developing country, I have also been intersted in the fecal sludge mangement activities. I would like to ask a few question (for the drying bed with greenhouse), here.

Is the greenhouse is mainly for rain proof? What is the max temperature difference between the greenhouse (inside) and the surrounding environment/atmosphere. I learnt from your vedio that you use the fan for ventilation and I would like to know what kind of energy source is used for the fan.

Do you also have any further treatment for the effluent liquid?

Thank you

Best regards,
Su Su

Re: Sandec FSM video

Hi Christoph,

There are some results in the last few slides of Seydou's FSM2 presentation, with drying beds and drying beds with greenhouses:

Re: Sandec FSM video

Hi Linda, 90 % is quite high. Normally the water content of sludge to be able to burn it is about 60% (40% dry matter). Just with drying beds you don´t get to these values dont´t you?

Yours
Christoph

Re: Sandec FSM video

Hi Christoph, we are still in the research phase, but have so far been working with drying beds with and without greenhouses. The cement industry specified that they want 90% dryness, and we are still evaluating the price that different industries in different countries are willing to pay. We have a couple publications in preparation...hopefully coming out soon.
Cheers,
Linda

Re: Sandec FSM video

Congratulations, a very interesting video. It gives some interesting views on treatment possibilities of fecal sludge. I would be very much interested in how you pre-dried the fecal sludge before burning in the cement industry (probably just drying beds), to what water content and how about the costs, did they pay a price for the "sludge" fuel?
Really a great video, thank you.
Christoph
P.S. It´s recommendable to put the resolution to 240, otherwise the video is very slow.
