On June 11th, iDE's Global WASH Director, Cordell Jacks will be travelling to the UK from Cambodia to talk about iDE's pioneering work in sanitation marketing or
SANMARK. This is a market driven approach to increasing sanitation coverage through a mixture of demand creation, enhancement of local supply chains and use of intelligent design.
Cordell will speak about how SANMARK came into being, the methodologies and design processes they use, and how it is a transferrable approach which works across a variety of different contexts.
iDE Cambodia was one of the first countries to try SANMARK and is now scaling up after it's successful one year pilot in which 17,000 toilets were sold through local supply chains. It is now also being employed by the Government of East Timor as a national programme and by 6 other countries around the world. Eminent supporters of the iDE approach include the Gates Foundation and the
Water and Sanitation Programme of the World Bank.
