Introducing Birzeit University: a current partner organisation of SuSanA

This is an introduction to one of our current partners.



The following text is taken directly from their application form and was written by the partner organisation themselves.

Description:
The Institute of Environmental and Water Studies (IEWS), centre of excellence of Birzeit University provides building capacity via education (MSc. and MSc. Levels), r&D and training in the fields of water treatment and sanitation sectors. Since 2000, hundreds of MSc students graduated and provide environmental services to local and foreign markets, many locally and EU funded development projects are managed and implemented. Local advisory services are provided to national and international agencies working in the field of water & environment.

Activities in Sustainable Sanitation:
- Promote sustainable sanitation services in rural communities, pilot and community-based systems;
- Plan, design and operate UASB systems with post treatment units; and
- Building capacity including education, research and training in the field of sustainable wastewater treatment options.

Expectations in the Partnership:
- Knowledge transfer and sharing;
- Know-how gain and applications; and
- Partnerships in projects development and implementation.

Contribution to SuSanA:
- In-kind contribution through publications, training, project proposal writing;
- Acquire international practical experiences and know-how from other countries; and
- House national/international training, seminars and conferences on sustainable sanitation facilities.
