Epidemiological Study for the group directly exposed to fecal sludge

Hi
Planning to conduct an epidemiological study to map the health risk of the people directly exposed to fecal sludge in their day to day life like sludge operators, farmers using untreated septage . Would be grateful if get to know about some previous study in this line...

Re: Epidemiological Study for the group directly exposed to fecal sludge

I think you'll find this discussion thread useful, where Sudhir recently posted an update (note the thread spans over 2 pages):
Health guidelines and standards for pit emptiers and exhauster operators
forum.susana.org/99-faecal-sludge-transp...-exhauster-operators

You'll find more information in the sub-category on fecal sludge transport:

Regarding health risks during reuse activities, browse here the category on reuse:

Good luck!
And could you tell us more about the background to your questions? What study is this, who is funding this, is this your PhD research? Who do you work for? Is your project already included here?: www.susana.org/en/resources/projects

Elisabeth

Re: Epidemiological Study for the group directly exposed to fecal sludge

Hi Elisabeth,

Many thanks for your support . I work with Indian Institute for Human Settlements(iihs) at Tamil Nadu Urban Sanitation Support Program funded by BMGF. The study will be a part of the impact assessment of our program. In our intervention area we often find farmers dealing with untreated septage. Septage operators are taking minimum safety measures while desludging and decanting. Along with setting up a FSTP our programme is trying to address these issues. So an epidemiological study at current scenario will be a good baseline to measure the impact three years down the line where farmers / septage operators are less likely to be exposed untreated septage ( at least we dream so !)

Once again many thanks...
